About Me
Hi, I'm Michelle
With over 15 years in the design world, I really enjoy bringing ideas to life through strategic, thoughtful design. I’ve worked in-house (including hybrid and fully remote) across non-profits, the arts, and the corporate tech world. Being an in-house designer let me stay closely aligned to the brand, collaborate across teams, build designs that support day-to-day needs, and see ideas through from first sketch to launch. In the volunteer world, I learned how to be a freelance designer and work with different types of clients while contributing to their causes and goals.
Method
I love the problem-solving side of design: digging into a request, asking questions, and finding that simple, clear visual solution that makes everything click. I trust the process (and I’m very organized!) and take the time to create meaningful content with a purposeful design to match. Being a lifelong student, I always enjoy learning new programs, new tricks, and new design concepts along the way.
Inspiration
I enjoy the design journey and find inspiration in everything around me – from book cover designs and websites to architecture and art galleries. I love to travel and learn about different cultures and their history (and their food!). I look up to artists, photographers, explorers, fellow designers, and people in my life who aren’t afraid to be themselves and take risks. When I’m giving my design tools a break, you’ll find me on a photography adventure, reading a good book, supporting my favorite pizza place or coffee shop, or hanging out with my husband (Matt) and dog (Daisy).
Origin Story
I grew up in a Coast Guard family and lived in Massachusetts, Alaska (yep!), New York, California, and Virginia. Living in different parts of the country, and traveling to many more, taught me to be curious, adventurous, kind, and open-minded. Although it was difficult to leave a place I called home, I’m grateful for all of the experiences and people I met along the way that made me who I am today. I look forward to my next adventure, wherever it takes me.
